Spring 2010 Registration
On-time Registration runs through February 1. Registrations received after that time will incur a $10 late fee. (The late fee funds are used to help offset the financial aid that we offer to players in need to help them participate in the club.)
All players from Fall will (or have) receive(d) a paper form to re-register for Spring 2010. We encourage you to use this form, as it saves the club several dollars per registration. You may also download a blank form here.
New players should use the electronic registration link on the right
Anyone needing financial assistance should download the appropriate form from the right side of this page and mail it in.
Because of insurance regulations, all players for Fall must have been at least 4 years old on July 31, 2009. Click here if you want a more detailed explanation of the age group system.
| Division | Fee | Age on 7/31/09 |
| U5/U6 | $43 | 4 or 5 |
| U7/U8 | $80 | 6 or 7 |
| U9/U10 | $101 | 8 or 9 |
Uniforms will remain the same for Spring 10 as for the last few years. Get more information on uniforms here.
For U5-U6 age groups only: Tuesday OR Thursday practice
We will have two sessions for the U5/U6 age groups. One will practice on Tuesdays at 6:00 and one will practice on Thursdays at 6:00. You will get to choose as part of the registration form.
We will try to keep returning teams practicing on the same day that they were in Fall. Please indicate your availability (Tuesday/Thursday, or "either") on the form.
Walk up registration:
We will plan a walk up registration. In the meantime, if you are a new player and cannot use on-line registration, please Contact Ralph Ackerman (racker@iastate.edu, 292-5203).
Spring Teams
Players who sign up on time will be reassigned to their old teams as much as possible. New players will be placed on old teams or put on all-new teams as numbers dictate. Teams are formed as much as possible based on school attendance.
We make every effort to break teams into one-year brackets. Registration numbers may force combination of U5 and U6 age group teams sometimes.
Financial Assistance Available. If you need financial assistance to afford to play soccer with the club, please download our financcial assistance form and be in touch with Ralph Ackerman at 292-5203 or racker@iastate.edu.
U5-U10 Team Names
The club gives names to each of the U5-U10 teams. The purpose of this is to generate awareness of soccer throughout the world. The names derive from three of the most important leagues in the world:
- U5-U6 Teams: English Premier League. The EPL is one of the very best leagues in the world, overall. Click here for the Wikipedia entry and here for the official EPL site.
- U7-U8 Teams: Spain's La Liga. Two of the very best teams in the world (Barcalona and Real Madrid) are in La Liga. Click here for the Wikipedia entry and here for an English-language site the covers La Liga.
- U9-U10 Teams: Major League Soccer (USA). This is the top professional league in the USA, with the Wizards being a reasonable drive away, in Kansas City. Click here for the MLS web site.
General information
Age groups. A detailed explanation of determining your proper age group is given on the "What's my 'U' Page. A basic table is given here. Please contact Gary Eyles directly (360-5117, garykix@mchsi.com) if you wish to play at an older age group. |

Team Formation. Fall teams are formed primarily based on what school the player attends. Roster sizes of about 5, 6-7, and 9 for U5/U6, U7/U8, and U9/U10 teams, respectively, are the targets, and we cannot exceed the maxima of 6, 8, and 10, respectively. Spring teams are the same as Fall teams to the extent possible for all players that register on time, and new players will be placed with their school team as possible. If you are home schooled, please just list the school your child would otherwise attend so we can place you with neighborhood kids. Click here for a detailed explanation of team formation policies.
All teams in the U5-U10 age groups are "recreational", and we focus more on player development than on "winning" as a team. No game scores or standings of any sort are kept. Sportsmanship by players and parents is of the highest importance.
Two important items to keep in mind:
- If you are a returning player and you register on time, we will make every effort to get you placed back on your same team. If you are registering for Fall, and changing age groups from U6 to U7 or U8 to U9, please be aware that the size of the team changes.
- If you are a returning player and you want to change teams (e.g., because of a personality conflict), you may request a team-change at the time of registration, but we cannot accept specific requests to be on a specific team because these are "recreational" teams. (See the policies page for a full explanation.)
Volunteer Information. Every U5-U10 team needs a volunteer parent coach. You will have the option of volunteering for this position or other duties when you register. The club offers extensive support for volunteer parent coaches, including the Academy Coaches writing and attending each practice, seasonal coaching clinics, and paying for our coaches to attend various licensing courses they might want to attend to learn more. More information on coach support can be found here.
Uniform Information. The club uniform for this age group consists only of a reversible jersey for games. Matching shorts and socks are also available. The uniform is available for purchase from JAX Outdoor Gear. Full details on uniforms are on the Uniform Information page.
