Referee Certification for Fall 09: Aug 21 and 22

The Story County Area Soccer Officials Association (SCASOA) and Nevada Soccer Club will sponsor an Entry Level Referee Clinic in Nevada on August 21 & 22. Interested persons should go to iowareferees.org and preregister under the “clinic” link at the top of the page. The clinic will run from 6-9:30 pm on Friday and 8-4:30 pm on Saturday. Cost is $45 and includes USSF registration thru December 31, 2010. Ames Soccer Club pays half the cost for its players and their parents.

Referee Certification General info

referee pictureInterested in getting certified to referee? The club supports referee development, just as it does players and coaches. A class is almost always held before each season somewhere in the Ames/Story County. Visit the Iowa Referees web site (www.iowareferees.org)and click on the "Calendar" link to look for Entry Level Clinics at a convenient time and place. (You must sign up in advance.) Bob Bergmann (bagman774@msn.com) may have information about plans for the locally held classes. The class is usually a Friday evening and all day Saturday. While there is no official minimum age, most beginning youth wait until they are U12 or U13.

Referee Development

The Ames Soccer Club's director of Referee Development is Robert Bergman. His mission is to provide education opportunities for local referees and help ensure that clubs operate in a way that ensures referees are continuously trained and supported. If you are interested in becoming a referee, either as a parent to support your son/daughter's team, or as a teenager interested in earning some pocket money, please contact Mr. Bergman. We ordinarily have an entry level referee certification clinic in the Ames/Story County area before each season.

Club Referee information

All U9/U10 and older games will be officiated by a certified referee. All U6 games should be officiated by a parent referee. Most U8 games will have a certified referee, but teams should be prepared to provide a parent ref if necessary. Every team should have at least one referee (a parent, brother/sister, etc.). The younger teams will need them for their games, and the older teams will need them to enter tournaments.

All referee assignments are being made through Charlie Ramsay. If you want to be a referee for the club or need a referee for a make-up game please contact him by email or phone.

All U10 and older games need to be rescheduled through Charlie. U8 games may be scheduled independently if you do not want a referee. PLEASE DO NOT RESCHEDULE GAMES FOR TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY. Please give Charlie AT LEAST 10 days notice.

U6 games may be rescheduled at the coaches' convenience, since the club does not provide referees and there should not be an instance in which all the fields are full.
