Fourth of July Parade

The Ames Soccer Club will once again march in the Ames 4th of July parade this year. Players should meet at 10:00 a.m. at the dragon statue on the south side of City Hall wearing their uniforms (sneakers, not cleats!). From there, we will go to our official starting location, and the parade begins at 11:00. Parents are invited to walk with the kids (wear a club shirt if you have one!) or meet their kids at the end of the parade back at the dragon stature. Kids are welcome to bring a ball to dribble/pass/etc with throughout the parade. We also have a club banner that the kids will march with.

If you as a parent know that you will be able to attend, please contact Damien Corrieri (Damien.Corrieri@gmail.com), so he knows that we will have an adequate number of parents to manage the group. Damien will coordinate our effort for the day.

U5-U10 Fall League Sign up now up and available. Sign up by Aug 1.

Returning U5-U10 players will receive a letter in the mail approximately July 1 with a pre-printed registration form. We encourage all returning players to return this form with check affixed. Registration using the online method is also now open. All new players should use online registration.

Congratulations to Joe Merchant and Craig Ogilvie

ISA AwardeesLong time ASC members Joe Merchant and Craig Ogilvie were be honored as the Iowa Soccer Association's Volunteer of the Year for youth soccer and Administrator of the year, respectively, on June 6 at a ceremony and reception hosted by the ISA in conjunction with the Kohl's Cup. Left to right in the photo are Craig, Jerry Knapp (Adult Soccer volunteer of the year), Cristy Hamblin (President's Award), Joe, and Robert Peddicord (Coach of the year).

Joe was honored for his many contributions to the club and his ability to really make the difference when needed by his club and community. Craig's work in the founding and formalizing of the CISL is the basis of his award. Thanks and congratulations to both of them.

Inaugural "Joe Merchant Volunteer of the Year" Award

We are pleased to announce that the board of directors has established a new Volunteer of the Year award, named in honor of its first recipient, Joe Merchant. Joe has served as a parent coach for several years. He has served as the club's president and as its representative to the HYSC board. Other members of the board will testify that Joe was always there "keeping us honest". Joe also led the effort to bring in our current Director of Coaching, Gary Eyles. As Joe retires from the board (finally!), we thought this was the best way we knew to honor his efforts. Congratulations, Joe!

Coach Licensing Policy

ASC has, for many years, supported coach training. Our goal is that 100% of our coaches (parent and staff) will have appropriate USSF coaching certificates/licenses by the beginning of their second year with the club. This includes coaches for every age group from U5-U19. Toward that end, the club increased its coach training budget, to ensure that we can provide this training free of charge to parent-coaches and staff, and we have committed to holding the courses in Ames quite regularly. Click here or visit the Policy page to read the full policy.
