Tryout information for Fall 2012 U11-U18 teams

Tryouts are held each spring to place all our players on appropriate Fall U11-U18 teams. This year, the tryouts will be from June 7-14. Current U10 players (mostly 4th grade) will have their first tryouts this cycle to join the U11 teams, but please let them know the experience is basically the same as going to a well coached practice. Current U9 players interested in playing U11 next year also need to attend the tryouts. Download the registration form for detailed times and dates for each age group.

An informational meeting for players moving into the U11 age group was held recently. The handout can be downloaded here.

Congrats to new licensed coaches

Over the weekend of March 23-25th, three club coaches recently attended a youth coaching license course and attained their E license certification through Iowa Soccer Association (ISA). Thank you to the following individuals who are taking the time to further their soccer coaching education which will greatly benefit our youth soccer players: Darby Wesley, U10 Girls, Chicago Fire; Kati Murphy, U6 Girls, Portsmouth; Nick Borisenko, Skills Coach U8.

These courses are offered before each season and the club covers the cost of the E license for any of its coaches. Be in touch with Gary Eyles to find out more details about it.

TK...to Teresa Kenton, named Iowa Soccer Association Administrator of the Year. Teresa was our long-time treasurer and serves as a stalwart team coordinator. She saved the club thousands of dollars through doing payrol, taxes, and hand depositing checks during an important transitional time for the club. The board was unanimous in supporting her nomination in the strongest terms and we were glad that ISA agreed!

Tom Sailer...to Coach Tom Sailer, winner of ISA's Alliance 4 All Sportsmanship Award. Ames Soccer Club got in on the ground floor with the Alliance4All program advocating sportsmanship on the part of players, parents, referees, and coaches. We are proud of Tom for being named to receive this important award recognizing the way he handles his team and games.

She was a critical person in ensuring the success of these events by securing the volunteer so them run them. She was also quite active herself as field marshall, on site coordinator, and working the concession area. She does it all!
